Traditionally, MTU Maintenance, the MRO arm of German aero engine manufacturer MTU Aero Engines, has lost lots of time by trying to reach suppliers one by one via email and tracking quotes with spreadsheets.

Working in such a manual way is not only time consuming, but lends itself to potential mistakes and missed savings opportunities, especially considering that the MRO service provider is an engine shop which handles specific and high-ticket engine parts on a daily basis. 

MTU needed to find a better way of working that allows for more efficient and more effective processes in order to reduce the cognitive overload of its staff. The organization looked for a technology to replace its conventional costing out of production material.
